Genomic newcomers in December 2018
Gymnast is the new top-class sire of sons among Holstein. He is the sire of six bulls in the Top-10, the four highest bulls are among them. Among Red Holstein Salvatore is very successful with his sons and a new Salvatore son climbs on top.
The Top-250 includes 56 new bulls and, therefore, exactly as many as in August. The by far most new sons are from Gymnast (19) followed by Salvatore with 4 new sons.
The name of the new official No.1 is Greatboy. He reaches RZG 163. However, he is not really a chartbreaker for RZM with 142 (+1,213 kg milk, +0.24 % fat, +0.14 % protein) and conformation (RZE 132, feet and legs 115, udder 137) among the Gymnast (Doorspopen x Jabir) sons. He is by far the highest Gymnast son for longevity (RZN 140) and also strong for udder health (RZS 121), daughter fertility (RZR 120) and daughter calving traits (RZKM 116, RZFit 154). His dam is a Balisto x Numero Uno that already has 3 more bulls of different sires in the top list and descends from the Rudy Missy family.
Greatboy is not the highest new bull. It is Grateful with RZG 164. As the result of the CD test (negative) was not available in time he is not in the official top list. His figures are outstanding: RZM 152 (+1,718 kg milk, +0.04 % fat, +0.15 % protein), RZE 124 (feet and legs 110, udder 122), RZS 120, RZR 112, RZKm 116 and RZN 133. His daughters should be suitable for automatic milking systems (RZRobot 120). Grateful is the first Guarantee (Boastful x Tango) son and descends from an American Montross x Dean dam on the maternal side.
Gywer RDC (Gymnast x Lobach), the highest newcomer in August, loses 2 RZG points and is on No.2 now. Having RZM 149 (+2,149 kg milk, -0.18 % fat, -0.01 % protein), RZE 130 (feet and legs 123, udder 126), RZS 114, RZR 119 and RZN 131 he has balanced, good figures on a high level.
He is followed by two more, new Gymnast sons, Gigabyte (No.3) and Greenwich (No.4). Pretty uncommon is that the dam of the young Gigabyte, SH Josi VG 86 (Silver x Model), already finished a lactation with 13,838 kg milk. Gigabyte is Mr. Trouble-free having RZFit 157 (No.3, RZS 124, RZR 116, RZKm 122, RZN 131), also for robot milking farms (RZRobot 129) whose daughters do not lose their will to milk with RZM 143 (+1,687 kg milk, -0.02 % fat, +0.03 % protein). In the linear, stature 124 – not necessarily desired nowadays –, extreme rear udders (141) as well as somewhat longer teats (112) stand out (feet and legs 125, udder 137, RZE 138).
Almost all Gymnast sons show balanced, high figures so that the differences are in the details. Greenwich here offers components with +0.32 % fat and +0.17 % protein (+1,132 kg milk, RZM 143). No faults for all functional traits (RZFit 151, RZN 134, RZRobot 117) and good conformation (feet and legs 123, udder 125, RZE 126) are almost standard among the Gymnast sons. Gymnast blood is available through Greenwich if you are not looking for extreme stature and body size. The maternal pedigree is also pretty extraordinary with Shep x Balisto x Sudan x Xacobeo and the cow family (Caps Mary) does not only shine with high genomics, but also asserted itself in the daughter proven field many times.
Gin Tonic ranks a little lower on No.7. He transmits high milk yield (+1,777 kg milk, -0.10 % fat, +0.06 % protein, RZM 149) with good functional figures (RZFit 146, RZS 124, RZR 116, RZN 127). Having RZE 125 Gin Tonic has a somewhat different linear: not that as strong for udders (115) as others of his paternal half brothers, but typical for a Gymnast son with focus on stature and body (feet and legs 120). Milkability should be kept in mind (RZD 91).
The fifth newcomer in the Top-10 is Longdrink on No.5 and he is the only one having a different sire than Gymnast. He is one of so far just two Lopez (Rubicon x Supersire) sons and has a Missouri x Bayard x Observer dam. Longdrink should breed medium-sized, rather late maturing daughters with firmly attached udders (125). Due to not too close rear teat placement, good milkability and very good udder health as well as somewhat longer teats he reaches the highest RZRobot of all Top-50 bulls (136). The production breeding values of Longdrink are ideal (+1,582 kg milk, +0.04 % fat, +0.07 % protein, RZM 144) and longevity is high (RZN 136).
Hotspot P (Superhero x Powerball P) defends his sixth rank despite the newcomers because he gains one point to RZG 161. In the meantime the availability of semen of this exceptional polled sire – who has very high results in almost all systems worldwide – is better now. RZM 152 (+1,048 kg milk, +0.46 % fat, +0.31 % protein, RZM 152) and RZE 130 (feet and legs 119, udder 127) are unique for a polled sire. In other aspects Hotspot P is faultless as well (RZFit 146, RZN 123).
Garido (Gymnast x Penley x Boss) ranks on No.8 due to the newcomers. Having RZM 148 (+1,887 kg milk, +0.08 % fat, +0.01 % protein), RZE 131(feet and legs 125, udder 126) and RZFit 151 he remains a typically good Gymnast son with good daughter calving traits especially (RZKm 124).
DG Charley son Casino (dam: Mardi Gras x Planet, No.9) wins 3 RZG points and one rank. He has a nice linear without any faults or extremes (RZE 121, feet and legs 115, udder 120) with lots of production (RZM 148, +1,905 kg milk, +0.07 % fat, +0.00 % protein), good longevity (RZN 130), milkability (RZD 111) and calm temperament (MVH 113).
Suprem (Superhero x Missouri) completes the Top-10 as highest production sire (RZM 157, +2,341 kg milk, +0.00 % fat, +0.00 % protein). Lots of capacity may be the basis for this will to milk (body 123). Regarding feet and legs (108) and udder (113) he cannot keep up with the other bulls in the Top-10 (RZE 121).
Outside the Top-10
The 15 new half brothers ranking lower must offer something special to attract interest facing even 6 almost faultless Gymnast sons in the Top-10. When looking at the two full brothers Gitar (No.14) and Gringo (No.17) out of a Penmanship x MPV dam it is outstanding daughter fertility with RZR 129 and 132 respectively though. In addition, Gitar is the best Gymnast son for overall conformation (RZE 139, feet and legs 127, udder 131) and RZRobot (132) as well as No.5 for RZFit (156). Having 140 for stature his daughters may be too tall for several farms (RZM 139, +1,384 kg milk, -0.02 % fat, +0.09 % protein). The full brother Gringo transmits moderate stature with 124 (RZE 128, feet and legs 114, udder 129) and somewhat higher components (RZM 142, +1,330 kg milk, +0.14 % fat, +0.11 % protein).
Gipsy (No.46, dam: Silver x Massey) combines conformation (RZE 131, feet and legs 121, udder 133), longevity (RZN 132) and daughter fertility (RZR 129) on an exceptional level for a Gymnast son (RZM 135, +1,194 kg milk, +0.17 % fat, +0.05 % protein). His full brother Gigastar (RZM 137, RZE 138, RZN 129) having the same RZG 156 is not in the official top list, but is now active.
All Gymnast sons are strong for daughter calving traits, but Boudy (No.54, dam: Rubicon x Supersire) outperforms them having RZKm 131 (RZM 134, +843 kg milk, +0.26 % fat, +0.16 % protein; RZE 137). Moreover, he is No.1 of all bulls for RZFit with 159 (RZS 121, RZR 120, RZN 132).
Granat (No.85, dam: Silver x AltaOak) stands for conformation (RZE 137, feet and legs 124, udder 132) and components (+0.43 % fat, +0.14 % protein, +1,134 kg milk, RZM 143) as well as milkability (RZD 118). Stature (139) and calving ease (89) have to be kept in mind.
Gamboa (No.98, dam: Lobach x Suran) hast he highest RZM 152 of all Gymnast sons (+1,827 kg milk, -0.01 % fat, +0.10 % protein; RZE 130, feet and legs 116, udder 126).
There is no real heifer bull among the Gymnast sons. Greatful (No.116, dam: Beatstick x Epic) is one of the better bulls here with RZKd 108 (RZM 139, RZE 134, feet and legs 130, udder 124).
Gracian (No.154, dam: Silver x Supersire) offers pure components with +0.48 % fat and +0.31 % protein (+808 kg milk, RZM 146). He is a typically good Gymnast son regarding the rest (RZE 133, feet and legs 125, udder 123) with adequate stature (135).
When looking at all new bulls in the Holstein and Red Holstein top list, Salvatore (Supershot x Sympatico) has the second most newcomers (10), four of them among Holstein. Savio (new on No.21, dam: Yoder x Numero Uno) is the highest ranking and the best for conformation with RZE 132 (feet and legs 130, udder 125). Besides high production with neutral components (+1,852 kg milk, +0.02 % fat, -0.01 % protein, RZM 145) he excels with absolute correctness and functionality on the highest level (RZS 110, RZR 116, RZKm 123, RZN 127, RZFit 151) and can be used on robot milking farms (RZRobot 122).
Saltasire has also highly estimated longevity with RZN 132 (new on No.60). However he is not that balanced. He is also very strong for production (+1,991 kg milk, -0.23 % fat, -0.06 % protein), but will probably loses some of his RZM 141 with clearly less fat and protein yield in April. Fat will have more weight compared to protein then. Having very well and especially highly attached udders (126, feet and legs 119, RZE 126) teat length is somewhat short (91). With RZKd 109 and RZKm 111 Saltasire can be used on heifers.
Slate RF (new on No.103) is even better for calving ease with RZKd 110 and RZKm 125. He is a maternal half brother (dam: Penmanship x MPV) of the two high Gymnast sons Gitar (No.14) and Gringo (No.17). Having RZFit 153 he is very strong in the functional traits (RZS 121, RZR 120, RZN 132) and conformation (RZE 130, feet and legs 122, udder 127). Milk production is not high enough for a better position (+1,096 kg), but with slightly positive components (+0.02 % fat, +0.08 % protein, RZM 132).
GGI Subway (new on No.215) has the highest RZM of the Salvatore sons with RZM 147 (+1,506 kg milk, +0.22 % fat, +0.11 % protein). On the maternal side, he descends via Josuper from the Mogul half sister of Mayflower, the current No.1 of the Interbull top list of daughter proven bulls, and the pedigree also includes the full sister of Robust (Socrates x O-Man). Therefore, GGI Subway ranks especially high in the USA with gTPI 2737 and NM$ 877. The GGI Subway daughters should be tall with focus on body and nice feet and legs as well as udders (feet and legs 117, udder 117, RZE 124).
Quentin (new on No.23) is the first Quantum (Supershot x Mogul) son. His dam is a VG 86 Baltikum daughter out of a full sister of Skagen (Shotglass x Beacon) who reaches RZG 134 as daughter proven bull. Quentin transmits production (RZM 148, +1,348 kg milk, +0.13 % fat, +0.20 % protein) with conformation (RZE 131, feet and legs 123, udder 124) on a high level.
Having RZG 158 as well Sambesi enters new (No.26). He is the higher bull of two Simba (Silver x Boss) sons. Sambesi (RZE 138, RZN 137) is one of just three bulls combining RZE and RZN above 135. Sambesi (dam: Battlecry x Shotglass) is the only one having also >130 RZM (RZM 133, +1,033 kg milk, +0.07 % fat, +0.11 % protein). Besides outstanding udders (136) and very good feet and legs (128) Sambesi offers the combination of type with clearly above average condition (BCS 108, RZFit 155).
Having RZM 133 (+832 kg milk, +0.16 % fat, +0.17 % protein) and RZN 135 the second Simba son Sunnyside (new on No.72) is quite as strong here too. He cannot keep up with Sambesi for conformation and RZE 126 (feet and legs 119, udder 129).
Robot milking suitability and very high udder classification exclude each other often as rear teat placement gets partly too close with very strong suspensory ligaments. This is not true for Already (new on No.62). Despite overall udder 136 (RZE 129, feet and legs 115) he reaches RZRobot 134 with ideal teat position (in the fore 112, in the rear 92), teat length 105, RZS 124 and milkability 106. Longevity (RZN 138) and daughter fertility (RZR 124) are strong as well. Milk yield is not really one of his strengths (RZM 130, +989 kg milk, +0.04 % fat, +0.08 % protein). Already is so far the only All-Star (Penley x Lucid) son out of a Battlecry x Police dam.
Nordmann (new on No.94, Nuance RDC x Commander x Bynke) offers a similar combination of robot milking suitability (RZRobot 127) and udder (130, feet and legs 122, RZE 133), combined with very high milk yield here (+1,912 kg milk, +0.14 % fat, -0.06 % protein, RZM 145).
Mandos (new on No.82) is the only Magister (Whatsapp x Direct) son (dam: Missouri x Bookem) and a production sire (RZM 144, +1,807 kg milk, -0.12 % fat, +0.03 % protein) as well as an all-rounder (RZE 124, feet and legs 125, udder 119).
Saveli (new on No.100) offers an even higher RZM with 146 (+1,627 kg milk, +0.13 % fat, +0.07 % protein) and RZE with 133 (feet and legs 124, udder 128). He is not that strong in the functional traits (RZS 108, RZR 95, RZN 119). Saveli is a Sharpe (Alta1stClass x Epic) son out of Missouri x Balisto. His full brother Shanghai ranks on No.249 (RZM 129, RZE 139).
If you are looking for trouble-free cows of medium body size you should use the new Youth (No.124, RZS 121, RZR 130, RZN 130). He is the first Yoyo (Tailor x Yowza) son. His pedigree includes a dam of Dozer before Macao VG 87, a full sister of LeChiffre (LetItSnow x Bookem) who currently had a very good debut in the daughter proven top list (RZM 122, RZE 130). Youth has nice production breeding values (+1,329 kg milk, -0.09 % fat, -0.01 % protein, RZM 131).
Further down the top list new bulls have to offer something special to attract interest, especially for conformation. Having more than 130 for RZE, RZS and RZN as well as RZG 150 there is only one bull, Olino (new on No.162, RZE 135, RZS 130, RZN 135, RZR 114). Olino is one of only two Outlast (Doorsopen x AltaOak) sons. He descends via AltaSpring and LiquidGold from the Roxy family. With somewhat low milk production, he is clearly positive for components (RZM 126, +556 kg milk, +0.25 % fat, +0.15 % protein).
Miko (new on No.180, Milord x Mr Max x Fanatic) also offers RZE 135 (feet and legs125, udder 135), but with clearly more milk (+1,742 kg milk, -0.12 % fat, -0.04 % protein, RZM 138).
With 141 Fireball (new on No.197) is the second highest genomic udder sire in the Top-250 (feet and legs 115, RZE 134). Having RZM 134 (+885 kg milk, +0.17 % fat, +0.16 % protein) the Federal (Alta1stClass x Moonray) son offers more than just beautiful, tall (126) daughters.
Silva (new on No.188) should also transmit top-class udders with 139 (feet and legs 115, RZE 133), but in combination with medium body size and good condition (BCS 112). He can be recommended for automatic robot milking farms (RZRobot 125). He is a Sixpack (s. Silver) son out of Blossom x Superfit (RZM 129, +929 kg milk, +0.08 % fat, +0.08 % protein).
Among the polled sires there are two interesting newcomers. Morice P (new on No.113) is a late Mission P son out of Commander x Supersire. Compared to his 8 half brothers in the top list he is characterized by longevity (RZN 129) and udder (134, feet and legs 112, RZE 127). He can also be used on robot milking farms (RZRobot 129) and transmits adequate production (RZM 136, +1,040 kg milk, +0.13 % fat, +0.14 % protein).
Andante P (new on No.245, Adagio P (s. Powerball P) x President x Headliner) combines lots of production (RZM 143, +1,701 kg milk, +0.14 % fat, -0.01 % protein) with a fantastic linear (feet and legs 120, udder 124, RZE 133). However the tall (129) Andante daughters may not be something for all farms.
The Red Holstein top is completely new including even seven new bulls in the Top-10 and almost every second top-class bull is a newcomer with 23 new bulls in the Top-50. The main number of new sires are from three sires of sons Styx Red (6, Entitle x Sympatico), Salvatore RC (5, Supershot x Sympatico) and Pace Red (5, Pat-Red x Numero Uno).
Solitair P (s. Salvatore) sets the new benchmark and is polled as well with a clear lead of 6 points and RZG 165. He is polled due to his dam, a Balisto daughter out of Lol PP VG 87 (s. Magna P RF). Solitair P is not even the highest production sire with RZM 150 (+1,809 kg milk, +0.03 % fat, +0.07 % protein), but he outpaces all other bulls with RZN 137, RZS 119 and RZR 108 combined with RZE 129 (feet and legs 121, udder 129). Moreover, he transmits good milkability (RZD 114) and can be used on heifers (RZKd 119, RZKm 107).
The second ranking Andy-Red has the highest RZM in Top-10 with 154 (+1,521 kg, +0.37 % fat, +0.19 % protein). He is the so far only Anreli (Riverboy x G-Force) son and was raised in the Netherlands like the current No.1 (dam: Rocky x Stellando). The linear of Andy-Red does not show any weakness even though he cannot keep up with most of the competitors in the Top-10 with RZE 119 (feet and legs 122, udder 112).
The list leader from August, Spark Red (Salvatore x Debutant x Brewmaster), is totally different here ranking on No.3 now with RZE 134 (feet and legs 131, udder 130). Furthermore, he is an absolute milk yield sire (+2,120 kg milk, -0.26 % fat, -0.05 % protein, RZM 146). The highest Styx Red son Summertime on No.6 can do better here: RZE 138 (feet and legs 137, udder 128), RZM 144 (+2,240 kg milk, -0.31 % fat, -0.12 % protein). With RZKd 121 and also daughter calving traits RZKm 114 Summertime (DS: Altahotrod) is the ideal calving ease bull. Summertime combines genetics of Styx Red with Salvatore because his maternal Sympatico grand dam is the dam of Salvatore. There is another similarly good, new full brother of Summertime on No.14, Starlight: RZM 143 (+2,137 kg milk, -0.27 % fat, -0.10 % protein), RZE 134 (feet and legs 132, udder 128). He can also be recommended for robot milking farms (RZRobot 126).
Solution (new on No.4, s. Salvatore) offers especially conformation with RZE 144 and udder 146 (feet and legs 130). You cannot rank high with conformation only. You also need production (RZM 133, +1,786 kg milk, -0.15 % fat, -0.16 % protein) and longevity (RZN 136) as well as functionality (RZFit 159, No.1). Having also best calving traits (RZKd 112, RZKm 123) Solution is an (almost) perfect bull if there wasn’t somewhat low milkability (RZD 89). On the dam’s side, Solution is out of an American Rubicon x Supersire that brings another highly interesting newcomer in the Top-10, Stormy Red on No.7 with RZG 157, in combination with Styx Red as sire here. The figures of Stormy Red are fantastic with RZE 139 (feet and legs 132, udder 136), RZN 138, RZS 123, RZR 120 (RZFit 155, No.2). Having similar RZM 131 with better protein (+1,530 kg milk, -0.18 % fat, -0.08 % protein) as well as positive milkability (RZD 108) he may be more popular than his half brother in end of the day as he can also be used on heifers (RZKd 115, RZKm 112).
The highest of the first 5 Pace Red sons is on No.8, Pasco Red. His strength is balance: RZM 144 (+1,949 kg milk, -0.21 % fat, -0.03 % protein), RZE 127 (feet and legs 118, udder 122), RZS 115, RZN 131, RZR 111. The dam is a young Battlecry daughter out of a Brekem half sister of Kanu P. If you wish for this combination as well as somewhat more conformation, you should pick the full brother Pantheon, new on No.11 having the same RZG 156 (RZE 140, feet and legs 125, udder 137). Pantheon is also better than his full brother for longevity (RZN 137). He is lower for production transmission with RZM 134 (+1,305 kg milk, -0.03 % fat, +0.03 % protein). Pasco and Pantheon are another example for how different full brothers can be.
GP Salvini loses 2 RZG points and drops from No.2 to No.9. The Styx Red son out of Apoll P x Balisto is not polled unfortunately. Having a balanced, good breeding value profile with RZM 138 (+1,610 kg milk, -0.15 % fat, -0.01 % protein) and RZE 129 (feet and legs 128, udder 128), short teats should be kept in mind when mating (87).
One of seven newcomers in Top-10 is still missing, Sting Red (No.10). The Styx Red son belongs to the 10 highest bulls for milk yield with +2,086 kg milk (RZM 141, -0.37 % fat, -0.09 % protein). However, the daughters’ udders should be very highly and firmly attached (udder 130, feet and legs 115, RZE 129). He also promises good daughter fertility (RZR 120) and longevity (RZN 130). Sting Red is clearly above average for calving traits (RZKd 119, RZKm 118). Similar qualities are offered by the somewhat older full brother System Red on No.18 (RZM 131, RZE 124, RZS 125, RZN 138, RZR 120). The dam of them is a Brekem x Alchemy and was imported as an embryo from Canada.
More Styx and Pace Red sons
The highest Styx Red son for feet and legs is Stuntman with 139 (new on No.16, udder 129, RZE 137). His dam is a Nugget RDC out of Aikman. He transmits medium body size. Stuntman also stands for positive components (+1,255 kg milk, +0.11 % fat, +0.02 % protein, RZM 134) and can be recommended for automatic milking systems (RZRobot 131) and use on heifers (RZKd 122).
The highest milk yield breeding value of all bulls is offered by Shivago on No.17 with +2,596 kg milk (-0.35 % fat, -0.08 % protein, RZM 154). Regarding functionality the Styx Red son out of Pat-Red is just average with RZS 97, RZR 92 and RZKm 97 (RZE 126, feet and legs 118, udder 121).
The best Styx son for RZE and udder is Shiplist, new on No.30 (RZE 142, feet and legs 128, udder 143). Besides conformation and lots of milk (+1,676 kg milk, -0.31 % fat, -0.11 % protein) he should transmit very good milkability even though he has an Apoll P dam (RZD 121).
Among the three more Pace-Red sons Panders (new on No.20, dam: Nugget RDC x Aikman) is not only the highest ranking, but also the most complete son: RZM 131 (+1,247 kg milk, +0.04 % fat, -0.01 % protein), RZE 137 (feet and legs 129, udder 134), RZS 111, RZN 135, RZR 117. He has a very good robot index (133) due to good milkability amongst others (RZD 120).
The figures of Frisk Red (new on No.24, Pace Red x Silver x Danillo) are solid and faultless, too. With RZM 144 (+1,578 kg milk, +0.01 % fat, +0.08 % protein) he offers more production than Panders with similar conformation (RZE 133, feet and legs 122, udder 131) as well as RZRobot 120.
There are three Salvatore sons among the further 5 new polled bulls. Salazar P (No.26) and Salvator P (No.39) are full brothers out of a Whatsapp x Snow RF from the famous Dutch Oelhorst Coba family. Salazar P is the higher milk yield sire (+2,250 kg milk, -0.58 % fat, -0.15 % protein, RZM 138), but the production figures of Salvator P are more balanced (+1,914 kg milk, -0.26 % fat, -0.09 % protein, RZM 139). Salvator P also has slight advantages for conformation with RZE 131 (feet and legs 115, udder 132) compared to Salazar P (RZE 126, feet and legs 120, udder 122). Daughter fertility (RZR 113) and longevity (RZN 128) result in 4 more RZG points of Salazar P.
Stanford P (new on No.28) is a Salvatore son out of a Powerball P sister of Red Power (No.8, daughter proven).
